A Fathers Day tribute. June 18th 2000, Fathers Day. Delivered to the congregation of the UU Church, San JoseGood
morning. My name is Alison McCarthy, and I am the oldest of six children. As you know, today is a very special day during which we recognize a very special and important figure in our lives. Today we honor fatherly
figures that have helped us become who we are. Today, I would like to honor someone incredible, who has been there for me every step of the way. My father always looks out for me, and helps me fix my wrong doings.
For all fourteen years of my life, my dad has been a nurturing role model, a person I could look to for advice. He has cared for my brothers, my sisters, and any other child that has come into his life. My father has
taught me many things, not only by telling me, but also by living his life as a kind, caring, honest, good-hearted man. He has taught me to be honest, to tell the truth regardless of the circumstances. He taught me to
follow through with my commitments, to do what I say I will. I have learned to do what is right, no matter what the crowd is doing. Through him, I have learned it is what's on the inside that counts, for he has stayed
with my mom through her sicknesses. I have learned to stand by close friends, for he has supported all
of our family's crazy ideas, whether it was adding on to our family or painting a door green. Through his words and actions, I have learned how to be a good person, with moral characteristics and a good conscience. I have learned life means giving as much as you can, and following a continuous circle of hopes and dreams. My father is a wonderful man, who has been supportive all the way.
Thank you Dad. |
